Managing your forest to insure its health is vital to preserving your forest land. If your forest is left unmanaged disease, insects, fire and storms will change the quality of your woodlot eventually. Harvesting your timber is one of many tools you can utilize to maintain a healthy forest while providing wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities. The most important action you can take when considering a timber sale on your land is to contact a professional forester. Many trees won’t be here in 20 years if you don’t harvest them now. For example, aspen, jack pine, and other species are short lived species and need to be harvested so the forest can regenerate to a new stand of trees. View the Tree Harvesting chart for details. |
